Our family was on a short vacation and was done with seeing places of interest in the vicinity and now was thinking what should be done as we had about 4 more days remaining of our holiday. When we enquired about the sightseeing places around the city we were in at the travel desk of that hotel, they gave us a listing of places which we could go to and which were not very far from the city. For this we needed a car rental, which we asked at the hotel’s travel desk and they put us on to this www.billig-leiebil.com. We told the executive about the plan which we had intended to do and he told us the rates of the various car rental plans which they had and then after some discussion we selected a plan which we thought will be appropriate for us and at the same time it was economical as well. We told the executive to arrange for the same and he said that the car will be ready and we have to sign some documentation which would be coming the next morning. This was all done very smoothly and we were very happy with the services given to us.

It is natural for new mothers to worry about the health of their newborn child. First time parents especially have fears about what could happen to a child with such myriad possibilities looming. Parents today wonder if vaccinations could cause their child’s brain to delay, effected by autism or other similar developmental delays. The conventional wisdom is that it is too important to have your child vaccinated to protect them against a number of deadly diseases.

There is nothing conclusive about what causes autism but there seems a genetic component. Given the higher likelihood that a set of parents will have a second child with developmental delays suggests that it could be genes that figure autism. Environmental factors are also considered in areas where there are more people afflicted with autism than the norm. Deciding whether or not to vaccinate gains support from people who contend autism is genetic.

Small Pox and Polio sound like long-lost diseases but it’s not impossible a child could be exposed if not vaccinated. These vaccinations generally occur around the end of the first year and were never considered risky until the recent rise in rates of autism in not only the United States but also the world. Still, others think causes could be environmental. Processed foods and vegetables treated with chemicals could also be increase autism rates. It is difficult to know what causes autism until the science on the subject becomes more definitive. Only a parent can decide what is best for her child but always conduct a physician for advice.

You may be well aware that breast feeding can be better for your baby but here are some of the benefits you may not have considered. Not only is it an excellent bonding experience, there are other benefits as well.

Health Benefits

There are many health benefits associated with a mother’s breast milk. For one thing, there is nothing on the market like it. There are plenty of formulas that do have similar attributes but natural milk is best if possible. There are antibodies in the mother’s milk that help your baby from a variety of illnesses and diseases. In fact, studies have shown that breast fed babies help the mothers too. Mothers who breast feed typically have lower rates of diabetes and breast cancer so not only are you helping your baby but you are helping yourself as well.

Cost Benefits

There is also the issue of cost. Breast milk is free while formulas can be very expensive.

Closeness and Bonding

One of the best benefits of breast feeding can be the bonding experience you develop with your baby. Even the baby’s father can grow closer to his baby by helping with bottle preparation and simply being near when the breast feeding is done.

Not every mother can breast feed due to a variety of reasons and that’s okay too. However, if you feel that breast feeding is right for you and your baby, you can certainly see the benefits of doing so. Breast feeding is universally accepted and you’ll love the benefits.

Over the years many parents have had to struggle when it is time to take their children in for vaccinations. Not only can this be stressful on the parents but it can be stressful on the child as well and can make a normal routine seem like a task that is difficult to deal with. There are a few things you can do to make shots and vaccinations easier on both you and your child.

One thing to consider is to not let your child know about the vaccinations until it is time to arrive. The reasoning behind this theory is that it can cause undue stress on the child if he or she knows what is coming and this will make it difficult to get them to cooperate once you arrive. Sure, they’ll know what’s coming once they are ready for the shots but if you don’t make a big deal out of it, they may not be as apprehensive.

There is a such thing called a shot blocker. These are a simple little gadget that is made of a rubber pad and a textured surface. However, they perform a very important task; they confuse the nerve endings for a little while so that the injection site isn’t quite as painful. Most doctors should have these shot blockers on hand but you typically may have to ask for them.

Make the trip fun. Allow your child to look forward to their vaccinations by planning a fun day. This way, their attention is focused on what they’ll be doing later as opposed to the shots.

One of the hardest things you may experience as a new mother is letting someone else take care of your baby. While this may be necessary due to work or other reasons, it doesn’t make it any easier. Choosing a daycare provider can be easier to deal with if you know a few things to look for.

The first thing to consider when choosing a daycare provider is to make sure that you find out their child to staff ratio. You want to be sure your child is getting the attention they need and that cannot be done if there aren’t enough staff members. Most states will require a ratio guideline that has to be adhered to and you can find out what that is by contacting the Child Services department in your state.

You will also want to find out how discipline is handled. You will most certainly have your own ideas of how this is to be taken care of so you’ll want to know that the daycare provider is on board with what you will and will not allow. Find out the daycare’s policy and what they consider proper punishment, if any.

Last but not least, be sure that you are aware of how things are handled when it comes to illness, medicine dispensing and emergencies. All of these issues should be addressed so that you know exactly what the protocol is for each situtation.

While choosing a daycare may not be what you want to have to do, finding a daycare that shares your own beliefs can be easier if you find out the answer to these questions.

Image via Wikipedia

With all the busyness of life, it sometimes escapes us that our baby is behind on his vaccinations yet again. How do we keep on top of it?

Locate a printable schedule like this one. Know the months when certain shots should be administered.

Keep track of your baby’s shots. Check off the immunizations as they are administered. A “yellow card” can be obtained from your doctor.

Schedule your doctor visits at about the same time. Keeping visits on Tuesday mornings, for example, will free up your schedule for other things, and you can always be sure that your visit won’t be over-shadowed by something else, even when you don’t have your calendar with you.

Sometimes parents are afraid to give their baby shots because of possible after-effects. Asking questions before the dose is administered is always a good idea.

If your baby has a low-grade fever or cold, you don’t need to cancel your appointment. Keeping your appointments when scheduled will keep your immunization schedule in check.

Study up on the subject of vaccinations. If you have any doubts whether or not to vaccinate do some checking online. See for yourself what folks think, and how specific family health challenges have been known to make or break the expected vaccination journey.

Don’t be afraid to have vaccines administered to your baby even if he yells and seems to hate you for awhile. Getting a shot hurts and all babies will cry when a needle is inserted into their skin.

Keeping your baby’s vaccinations up to date may not be an easy task, but it sure eases your life when the process is implemented and up-to-date.

What can you do to help your baby remain healthy? What are the tricks of the trade that won’t cost you a royal mint? What do babies really need when it comes to every day care?

Get the answers, here.

Teething might not be first on your “what should I do list” but it’s a good idea to be prepared. Try bagels, teething biscuits, or a cool bottle of water when your baby begins teething.

Try lemon to remove spit-up stains. Fill a pot of water on the stove and boil a couple of slices of lemon with it. Once the water comes to a boil, turn off the heat and place the baby clothes in the pan. Soak for at least an hour. Launder as usual. If you’re experiencing a nice summer day, hang up your baby’s clothes to dry—the sun is a natural bleach.

If your baby has colic, try playing soft music or switching the formula you use. Make sure you’re not over feeding your baby by keeping to a regular schedule. If you’re breastfeeding take stock of what you’ve been eating; spicy food contributes significantly to colic in babies.

Want to save money on diapers? Ask for them when folks want to know what you can use. Focus on store brands, they’re usually cheaper, and don’t hesitate to look for diaper sales, coupons or rebate offers.

Grandmothers may not have the most up to date information on whether or not you should sanitize baby bottles, but they may give you some grandmotherly advice that you can use. Listen, you just might learn something.

You’ve raised them since they first opened their eyes. You saw their first steps, picked them up when they fell down and watched them grow into young adults. For all of the time spent taking kids to soccer practice or dropping off forgotten homework assignments, many parents wished for extra time for themselves. However, when that wish is granted, and their children move out, many of these same parents don’t know what to do. If you are one of these parents, try to keep the following in mind:

Remember When…

Even though it might not seem like it, there was a time before you had kids. Prior to a devoted career as a parent, many people had different dreams or interests. Now is the time to indulge. Ever dream of seeing the Eiffel Tower in Paris or want to complete a marathon? Now is the time to do it!

Absent But Not Gone

Once children are on the way to live their own lives, parents might feel a void. For parents suffering from empty nest syndrome, remember: even though your kids are out of the house, it does not mean that they are out of your life. Continue to act as a mentor. Help your kids find the best deals on apartments for rent. Meet with them frequently to ensure that the transition is working for both of you.

The transition is always difficult. However, if, rather than allowing feelings of emptiness to linger, parents take the opportunity to find something else to fill their lives while maintaining a healthy parent-child relationship, it can become a positive change for all concerned.

The day has come, your teen is moving out. What can you do to prepare them—and you—for the necessary transition?

These ideas should help.

Have one last “at home” talk. Speak with your teen about the responsibilities incurred with moving out. Sure, they may fight you a bit on this one, but be assured, they will thank you later. Make sure you let them know of your love for them; and your confidence that they can do this on their own.

If your teen is moving in with a roommate, discuss the pros and cons of such an arrangement. Sure, rent is that much cheaper, but will your son or daughter be able to get along with their chosen roommate? Suggest that they work up a contract that entails the duties and responsibilities of each party and what will happen if either party doesn’t follow through.

Know that you’ll be excited for your teen’s freedom, and the reverse will certainly be true. What you may not expect is to shed a few tears upon their departure. And don’t be surprised if a few weeks down the road you don’t receive a “lonely” call from them.

Keep the lines of communication open. Once your teen’s moved out, don’t force your opinions or place guilt on choices your teen has made that you don’t agree with. They’re on their own now. If they don’t ask for advice, don’t give it.

When your teen moves out, it’s quite natural to feel a mixture of joy and pain. Change is rarely easy, but if you follow the helps above, the shift will be that much easier to take.

Motherhood is meant to be easy — this is the assumption, a belief that century after century of evolution will offer instincts that can’t be denied. Truth is rarely obliging, however, and new parents may instead discover that the process isn’t so straightforward.

Help is therefore needed and there are — fortunately — many chances to obtain that aid. Utilize these suggestions for infant care and ensure a child’s health and happiness.:

Hospital Support

The days before a child’s arrival are shaped to white walls and sterile lighting, the endless span of hospital corridors. Expectant mothers devote themselves to the world of healing (and wish only then to flee it). After the birthing process is complete, however, individuals should not be so quick to escape. Doctors can provide further aid, soothing concerns.

Home Care

The demands were once easy: balancing budgets, seeking sales, choosing LRG Clothing for a stylish evening out. Such demands have changed now, however. New mothers can find themselves overwhelmed at home, with familiar rooms seeming somehow too strange. Professional nurses are therefore recommended. These individuals come from certified agencies and can help to make the transition simpler. They can provide full-time or part-time care, and can offer help with feeding, changing and more.

Family Relief

Shame isn’t an emotion anticipated with motherhood. All feelings are to instead be kind — but individuals may become embarrassed with their struggles, are unwilling then to seek support. If asking strangers for help seems to be too close to failure, parents are instead encouraged to rely on their families. Borrow wisdom that’s been earned by others and gain relief.

Lifestyle and obesity has always been related to each other in a major way. Obesity is a comparatively newer health concept which has become a case of utmost concern in modern times. Nowadays people are enjoying increased disposable income with globalization spreading its wings almost everywhere. However with it, people are also left with very less time to look after themselves and take care of their health. He entire lifestyle pattern has changed immensely.

As people do not have much time left at their disposal, they tend to incorporate things which will help them in providing the necessary items faster. The catchword of the modern age is ‘instant’ and people are running for everything which is instant, be it instant food or instant communication. The instant foods allow people to save a lot of time from preparing and cooking the food. People can use that spare time for enhancing their career and development. However the instant foods have their negative impacts as well. They are treated with chemicals and are not fresh.

People are hence becoming increasingly exposed to harmful chemicals. They are also being devoid of the necessary nutrients which are required for their health. These instant foods and junk foods are leading to the increase in the number of obese people. The cases of obesity can be seen more in the developed parts of the world where people have access to such junk items. Obesity should be curbed at the earliest as it is one of the major reasons for a number of ailments like hypertension, cholesterol, blood pressure and cardiac diseases. It is important to make certain lifestyle changes like incorporating nutritious eating habit and physical activities.

Health does not mean physical health alone, mental health is also important. How do you feel when you are physically healthy but still you feel down and out because of some mental tensions? It is important to keep yourself stress free so that you are healthy in the true sense of the word. Do you know what mental health is? Let us check it out.

Do you get angry on small matters? Is frustration the reason for your anger? Does it happen that you forget minor things in your daily life? Do you have a number of mood swings with in a short span of time? If the answer to all these questions is yes, then, you may not be healthy mentally. Mental health means that a person has a control over his/her emotions and is generally cheerful by nature. Mental health also means that a person has a positive attitude towards life and is able to tackle all the difficult situations of his life.

Emotions like anxiety, anger and sadness are the factors that are responsible for bad mental health of a person. Thus, cheerful behavior is one of the best medicines for mental health. People who are jovial by nature are usually found healthier than others. However, if you are not a jovial person then you can try some ways and create situations that can make you happy.

Make friends with people who are energetic and have a good sense of humor, this will help you imbibe such a nature as well. If this does not seem easy, then, go to the nearest bookstore and find out some humorous books which you can read. Read a page or two of this book whenever you feel low. So follow these ways for your good mental health. Be cheerful and remain healthy always in your life. Cheers!

Laughter is the best medicine is a proverb that you must have heard a lot of time but do you know why? Our brain acts on logic things, thus, it is important to understand why is called the best medicine because we starts taking doses of this medicine. When you laugh whole heartedly, laughter gives a good exercise to various parts and organs of your body such as diaphragm, facial muscles, and abdominal muscles. After the workout, these parts of your body start functioning in a wonderful manner and play an important role in the well being of your body.

According to a medical research, many people are suffering from a number of diseases because they are not able to sleep well due to mental and physical tension in their body. It is important for a person to sleep well so that the cells of our body can relax themselves and are able to perform their functions in a proper manner. Laughter reduces physical and mental tension from our body. People who are cheerful are able to have better sleep than the ones who are serious by nature.

Laughter does not mean that you have to go to a laughter club every morning and have to indulge yourself in artificial laughter and come back home and feel the pressure of home and work. This does not mean that you should not go to laughter clubs. The main purpose of laughter club is to provide an external stimulus for laughter so that gradually you develop humor in your nature and in your life as well. In this proverb, laughter means a general jovial nature of a person. It means that cheerful behavior is very important to keep yourselves healthy. So, start taking the dose of laughter everyday as soon as possible and indulge yourself in daily activities which can make you happy. Stay healthy always!

Shopping for Halloween costumes for the kids has never been easier. Your son or daughter is sure to find a costume they like if you take them shopping online. Children’s costumes are organized by gender and age, as well as by category like Superhero or Fairy Tale character. You and your child can browse through all of the selections or conduct a search for something specific. Once you find something they like, you simply place your order and wait for it to be delivered to your home.

Shopping online has several benefits over hitting the stores. Number one, you can order well in advance of Halloween and do not have to wait until the stores decide to put their Halloween merchandise on display. Costume stores operate year round on the internet which means that if you have a problem with a costume, returns are very easy. Some of the Halloween stores only open for a few weeks around trick or treating time and have their doors shuttered the rest of the year.

When you shop online for Halloween costumes, you have a much wider selection of costumes and sizes to choose from. The inventory of online shops is 10 to 20 times the typical brick and mortar store, and you are likely to find much better deals. One place to start your online search is in the clearance section; if your child sees something they like there, you won’t have to go any further and can save yourself some cash. Also, think of the money you will save in gas by shopping online and not driving around from store to store for kids costumes.

Online shopping for costumes takes a great deal of the stress out of what is supposed to be a fun time. You won’t be scrambling around to find the perfect costume and you know your child will look great when trick or treating in the neighborhood or attending a Halloween party.

Tom and Marsha have a son in the second grade and a daughter that is three years old. Tom recently got a raise at his job and he and Marsha are considering replacing their computer. Shortly after Tom and Marsha were married, they received a hand-me-down computer from Marsha’s parents. Now that Tom is making more money, they feel that they can afford a new computer. They want their computer to last.

First, they should install an antivirus and a spyware software program. These programs keep track of suspicious websites and block them from installing viruses or spyware. They also monitor links clicked on in an e-mail message or software downloaded from what might be a disreputable source. It deletes the virus or quarantines it so that it cannot damage your computer. Installing a PC antivirus software program will keep Tom and Marsha’s computer safe from viruses.

Tom and Marsha’s also want to keep their computer safe from their children! A registry cleaner like PC Tools Registry Software will enhance the computer’s performance, in addition to using antivirus software. Tom and Marsha should also help their children go to appropriate sites. There are sites on the Internet that are designed especially for young users. When Tom and Marsha’s children enter those types of sites, they are in a safe and controlled environment. They can only access the sites that have been approved. There are 2 million kid-friendly sites that have been checked and approved by experts. Children can play games, learn, and have a good time. They will not stumble upon pornography nor will they come in contact with online predators. Using systems like this (antivirus software, registry cleaners, and basic ground rules on computer use) give Tom and Marsha the peace of mind that their children will have safe experiences while using the computer, especially when they go online.

Did you know that babies sleep before birth? I’m sure you did. But, the environment in which they are used to sleeping changes drastically at birth. Instead of being cuddled in a nice, warm, cozy womb, they suddenly find themselves in a brightly lit, noisy, confusing world. No wonder babies can have trouble sleeping; they don’t know where they are.

The easiest way to help a baby sleep is to try and give them an environment that’s as close to the one in which they have been comfortable for the last nine months. So, what does that environment include? Well, we know it’s warm, dark and moves around while they are sleeping; we know that they can’t move a whole lot; and we know that the thing they hear the most is their mother’s heartbeat. Oh, one more thing, they are used to being in an environment where they are in contact with another human being twenty-four/seven.

Okay, so how do we re-create that environment? Actually, a lot of thought has been put into that question by companies that manufacture clothes, furniture and other products for babies. There are a myriad of products available on the market, to help you help your baby sleep well.

With our children, we’ve found two things that were very helpful. The first is to have the baby sleep in something that is moving. I don’t know how many baby swings we went through, but I’m pretty sure we had more swings than we had kids. My favorite one had a bassinette to start out with for the baby and a seat for when they got a little bigger. All we had to do is put our children into the seat, and it would lull them to sleep.

The other product that helped a lot was one of those teddy bears which play a recording of the sounds from the mother’s womb. That always seemed to comfort our babies, helping them get to sleep. Between the two of these products, we had a lot of peaceful time with babies asleep.

Once you bring that new baby home from the hospital, you find that your whole world changes. All of a sudden, that baby is making demands upon your time, your attention, and your energy. Nor can you tell that baby, “not now” like you can other people. Babies only know “right now” and expect everything they want at the moment they want it.

Unfortunately, those moments aren’t always when it is convenient for us. In fact, all too often, it seems like those moments are at the worst possible time for us. Take the middle of the night for example. Pretty much everybody knows that newborn babies don’t sleep all the way through the night. That’s such a big deal, that most couples are thrilled when their baby manages to sleep all through the night for the first time. We look at it as a major step in getting some normality back into our lives.

But, what about before that time comes where the baby actually makes it through the night, without waking us up? How can we manage that time, without pulling all our hair out or turning into zombies?

The reality is that most mothers of newborns don’t get enough sleep. They try and make it thought the night with the minimal number of interruptions, then get up in the morning and go through the whole day as if they had slept through the night. Let’s figure the math on this. You start out with your basic eight-hours-of-sleep night, then you subtract the time it takes to get the baby, change their diaper, feed the baby, and then try and get back to sleep yourself. That’s probably 45 minutes to an hour. Oh… and what if the baby gets up twice in the night? Now you’re losing somewhere between an hour and a half and two hours. Your eight hours of sleep just turned into six. No wonder you’re tired.

Just as babies need naps, mommies do to. In fact, I’d have to say that mommies need naps more than the baby does.

Babies can be fun; it’s fun to watch them learn and explore. It’s fun to be part of the process of discovery. It’s fun and exciting to be there when they hit those milestones of development.

As parents, we have a lot to do with how our children grow and develop. While insuring a proper diet will help their bodies grow, insuring good stimulation for their brains is just as important. From the time your baby first opens its eyes, to the time it graduates from college, you need to be helping it learn about the world around it.

Babies learn by using their senses. They learn to move by feeling their body and experimenting with it, trying to copy what they see others do. They learn to talk by hearing the people around them talk and trying to mimic them. They learn what the world is like by seeing, touching and even tasting everything they can.

The first level of learning for a baby is by seeing, before they even know how to control their bodies. When they first open their eyes, a tape recorder turns on, working to remember everything seen through those new eyes. A computer turns on and works to analyze the images coming through those eyes, looking to find meaning in those images.

Interestingly enough, the first thing that a baby recognizes by seeing are human faces. It doesn’t matter whose face, whether it is in color or black & white, or even if it’s a very good rendition, they recognize it as a face. Shortly after that, they become attracted to colors, especially bright colors. That’s why so many things made for babies are bright colors; it helps stimulate them.

These visual stimulants are important for a baby’s developing awareness. It helps them learn to focus their eyes, and start recognizing things around them. Even from that first time that they open their eyes, they need this stimulation. Build them an environment that stimulates their mind, it’ll be worth it.

Women who are pregnant are always advised by their doctors to eat a healthy diet, not to smoke, and to stay away from alcohol. As part of that admonition, the doctor always explains how the things that you eat and drink can and will affect the baby.

Giving birth to that baby doesn’t mean you can suddenly go on a binge though. If you’re going to breast feed, you still need to watch your diet, avoid alcohol and be especially careful about any over the counter or prescription drugs that you take. Many of these things can end up directly in your breast milk and affect your baby.

You have to realize that your body is working to produce the entire nutritional necessity of your baby. Not only that, but it is adding antibodies and other health factors to the milk it is producing. All of this is important to your baby’s proper growth and development.

If you are lacking in some type of nutrient in your diet, your baby will end up lacking that nutrient as well. Take calcium for example. Calcium is necessary for the growth of bones. If you aren’t taking in enough calcium, how can your breast milk have it for your baby? While that baby was growing in you, it would literally take calcium from your system, if necessary from your bones, in order to have what it needs. But now that the baby is born, it only receives what you give it in your milk.

I realize that most women want to lose the weight they gained from the baby, but you have to be careful about that. A balanced diet is essential to insure that you are giving all the necessary nutrients to your baby. That doesn’t mean you can’t lose weight, just that you have to be careful how you are doing it. Cut out carbohydrates and sugars from your diet, but don’t cut out proteins, vitamins, fruits and vegetables, both you and your baby need them.

Don’t feel guilty if you feel worn out and wish that someone would take your baby off your hands for a couple of hours. Every mother feels like they need a break now and then. Let’s be real here, babies are a lot of work. They can and will take every bit of time and energy you’ll give them.

As a mother, especially the mother of a newborn, it can be hard to get that break. Your baby needs you there to feed it, hold it, change it’s diapers, and watch over it. The constant need for vigilance, in and of itself, can wear you out. But, if you don’t get a break, you can burn out. That isn’t good for you or for your baby.

Here’s a way of getting a break, without having to leave your baby behind. Actually, you don’t even need to leave your house in order to get this break. Ready? Okay, here’s the idea. Have your friends come over to visit. Hold on a minute! Before your mind starts going a hundred miles an hour, thinking of all the extra work that having friends over entails, hear me out.

I’m not talking about having your friends over as in entertaining them. You don’t need to clean the house, fix a meal, and make sure everything looks like you belong on a magazine cover. Your friends know you’ve had a baby. Many of them have, or have had babies, so they know how much it can wear you out. They know how much extra work you’re doing. They understand if the house doesn’t look like a magazine cover and you don’t look like a supermodel. They even understand how appetizing a bologna sandwich can be, just because it is easy to prepare.

What I’m trying to suggest is that you let your friends come over and help you out. If nothing else, having them hold the baby for a while gives you a break. You need a break, let them do what friends do and give you that break.

In case you weren’t aware, first-time mothers have a tendency to be a just a bit nervous about their babies. They tend to regularly count fingers and toes to make sure they’re all there, bundle their baby’s up to make sure they’re nice and warm and wonder at every cough and sneeze if the baby’s catching a cold. Most overdo the worry factor just a little too much.

On the other hand, if a new mother isn’t worried about their baby, it might just mean that they don’t care, or at least don’t care enough. Babies are delicate creatures and they do need lots of care. It doesn’t take much to harm one, even inadvertently. So, I guess all that worry is good for something.

Part of taking care of your baby is to make sure you take it to the doctor for regular well baby checkups. Before you left the hospital, they gave you a schedule for this. While you might imagine every cough or sneeze means something ominous, it’s only our health professionals who can really tell. Taking your baby to be checked isn’t about being worried, it’s about being a smart mother; letting someone who is knowledgeable and unattached check to make sure your baby is fine.

While most of the things you worry about might not mean anything, there is always a chance that some little detail you’ve noticed can be a symptom of something the doctor needs to know about. Since the doctor can’t ask the baby if there’s anything wrong, they need this sort of input from the person who’s most likely to notice it, you.

Another thing you need to be sure and check on while taking your baby for checkups is the normal developmental milestones that are in your baby’s life. While not all children start these activities at the same time, there is a common age range for each of them. You and your doctor both need to know if your baby is within that range, in order to know how well your baby is growing and developing.

Parents want to do all that they can to protect their children, but many of them focus only on the immediate things. They don’t consider what might happen to their family if they were no longer able to provide for them, or if they were to pass away before their children were grown. It’s a lot of responsibility to be a parent, and part of that is having insurance to protect everyone in the family. Life insurance is the best way to do that, and there are two different kinds: whole life and term life. Whole life insurance builds cash value that you can pull out of the policy later, but the monthly premiums are also significantly higher. Term life insurance has no cash value and is good only for a specific term, after which you must renew it. The premiums are much less expensive each month.

Only you can decide what kind of life insurance would be best for you and your family, and you’ll all have to come to a decision as to how much the life insurance policy will be for. You can compare insurance quotes in order to find the best deal, which will allow you to look at the policies side by side and see which one is really providing you the most (and best) coverage for the money. There are usually exclusions to policies, so read all of the fine print and make sure that you understand what you’ve read.

It’s generally very easy to get life insurance, especially if you’re young. In a lot of cases, you’re not even required to take a medical exam. Of course, that depends on the company that’s issuing you the policy and how much insurance you’re asking for. People who want large policies are more likely to need medical clearance before they can get the policy they desire.

Infants have very sensitive skin. The environment that they are in during gestation is completely sterile. This is how they are able to avoid illness while in utero. In fact, many new parents notice that their newborns develop, what appears to be, baby acne. This usually happens within hours of birth, and can last a couple of days up to a month. The onset of baby acne is merely the effect of being exposed to a non sterile environment, and your new little ones skin is just not able to deal with the environment that, as adults, have become accustomed.

Baby acne is not the only skin issue that infants deal with. Remember, their skin is extremely sensitive. Which means that harsh cleaners are harsh on their skin. This would include detergents, shampoos, soap, lotions, oils, and even air fresheners. When using products on your newborn, it is wise to make sure that they state they are intended for use on a baby. Otherwise they can create rashes, hives, and cause extreme dryness. The other tip is that once you use a product that has no issues with your baby, continue to use the same product. Your baby does not care about scents like you do, and what is more important is that there is something that is safe being used on your infant.

One of the biggest culprits of skin rashes with infants is through their clothing. The detergents that you use leave a residue on your clothing, which in contact with your skin for hours at a time. If a baby has a sensitivity that is present with cleaners, it is best to stick with products like Dreft, or Snow. These are hypoallergenic products that guarantee that your baby’s soft skin will not be harshly affected like that of detergents that more mature skin can handle.

One of the hardest things for new parents to get used to is the fact that their new baby does not sleep through the night. This adjustment is exhausting for many people, and is frustrating. There are some things that you can do, once you realize why your baby is wide awake every two hours or three hours. One of the biggest reasons for this occurrence is the fact that your baby is hungry, and the milk your feeding him or her, is being digested very quickly. In turn, that milk goes through their system, completely, and baby is uncomfortable because they are wet or dirty.

Here is an age old trick that has worked for mother for many years. It is not advisable to feed your baby cereal, or baby food for some months, however, giving them just a little help fill their belly. It is a good idea to wait about a month or so before trying, but after they reach about four to six weeks in, place just a pinch of cereal either in their bottle, or in their mouth. That pinch of cereal will keep them feeling full and you will realize that instead of waking up every two or three hours, your baby is waking up every four or five.

You never want to exceed this tiny bit until a Doctor says it is alright for a couple of reasons. For one, over feeding your baby can help them gain weight too quickly. Experts say that many obese adults were over the recommended weight as infants and toddlers. While it is tempting to start feeding them solid meals at his point with cereal, it is best that you not do that. The second reason is that their tiny stomachs are not ready for food like this, and too much can make your new little one uncomfortable.

Deciding to have a baby and start a family is an exciting time of life for many people. However, there’s one important thing that many don’t consider: the finances and a savings account. Before you begin trying to conceive, make sure that not only are your finances in order, but that you have a savings account or backup plan in case of emergency.

Children are expensive enough without having to worry about the added extra burden of losing a job, having to replace a car or even just buying formula. Having a savings account or knowing what resources are available to you in case of emergency can alleviate a lot of stress. If your bank account is inadequate to handle whatever life throws your way, consider a resource like GreatPlainsLending. Companies such as this make a business of lending money to people in need. These short term loans can make the difference between feeding your kids and paying the bills, or risking going hungry or without electricity.

Everybody has the best of intentions when it comes to finances, and having a good budget is one way that you can keep on track with your money. Many people, however, fret that they won’t be able to save enough money in case of an emergency. Lending resources like GreatPlainsLending can loan you enough money to build up your nest egg and then you can work on repaying the loan. This way you have the security of having a savings account, and you can work on gradually paying back the loan.

No matter how you do it, careful planning of your finances prior to having a family is the responsible thing to do. Even if you have a steady paycheck now, there’s no telling what will happen a year down the road. Having three month’s worth of expenses set aside will help you deal with any financial situations that may arise.

It is a common notion that babies get upset. It is the one way they are able to communicate that something is wrong, whether it is their diaper, they hurt, they are hungry, or they are tired. Crying is the one way to say, “hey mom, I need something!” Then there is the crying of pain. This can be gas pain, diaper rash, or even colic, all of which are very uncomfortable for your baby. When a baby is crying over these types of issues, it can even get to be very frustrating for mom. Colic especially, is an event that happens with a baby’s tummy. The cause is not completely known, but for some reason happens at the same time of day, nearly every day, for up to six months of life. What this means for mom? A lot of crying from baby.

Here are some way to comfort your little one when they are feeling upset. For one, you will learn very quickly the different sounds of cries that baby makes, and from that sound, you will know if your baby is tired, hungry, or hurting. The hurting cry has a shriek sound almost, and it is identifiable for any mother. The best way to comfort pain is by using basic over the counter help aids. Products like Little Tummies, or Little Teethers help infinitely. For colic, just rub baby’s tummy, and bounce them in your arms. There is really nothing that you can do. For diaper rash, there are new products that help with this like balm baby powder. This way the loose powder does not get into a rash, causing further irritation. Being tired is the number one biggest upset for babies. They are tired, and just can not get to sleep. The best trick, try singing a little song, and bouncing them gently.

Having a baby that does not feel good is a tough thing for a new parent. In fact, many new parents are unsure what to do when their new baby sneezes, and are rushing the infant to the pediatrician. There are some sure tell ways to know if your baby is just sneezing, or if you baby truly needs medical help. This is by no means to replace medical advice from a doctor, so be safe, and when in doubt call your doctor.

Here are some old time and tested things to do when your baby does not feel well. For a cold, allow your little one to rest, drink plenty of fluids, and if available, to sleep near a vaporizer. This will help clear your baby’s congestion up, and help them to get feeling better faster. If at all possible, keep your infant away from other children to prevent the spread of the cold. For a fever, the rule of thumb is to allow a little one to fever until they hit 102 degrees before giving them any medication. The reason for this is because a baby’s body is programmed to fight illnesses, and anything up to 102 degrees is the body’s natural way of eliminating pathogens.

Croup cough is another scary illness that many babies suffer. Many parents tell the Doctor when they get to the emergency room, that as soon as they left the house, it stopped. The reason for that is the cold air. As soon as cold air hits the lungs of your baby, it constricts the tubes in the lungs, making it easier to breath, and clearing the air ways. If your child is experiencing an episode, try placing them in front of an open freezer, this will give your baby a rush of cold air and break the croup.

You know how important it is for your youngster to eat fruit and vegetables instead of constantly reaching for cookies, candy, or other “junk” food. Sometimes, however, the very appearance of certain types of fruit or vegetables is enough to turn your child off from eating them.

This is when food dehydrators can be a tremendous asset. Dehydrating food removes the moisture from foods, thus changing its appearance. However, simply removing the moisture does not take away from the nutritional value. The vitamins and minerals that are so important to your child’s diet are still in the dried fruits and vegetables.

If you buy several food dehydrators, you can use them to dry separate groups of food. This way, you don’t have to worry about your fruits tasting like the chicken or beef you dried last or your green beans tasting like peaches.Another advantage to using food dehydrators is that dried fruit does not turn brown. You know how unappetizing a brown apple, peach, pear, or banana looks to you, so think about how it must look to your child. Dehydrated fruits retain their natural color.

Food dehydrators make it easier for you to provide your child with a balanced diet. You can prepare “TV dinners” by removing only the portions of meat, vegetables, and fruit you need for your child’s meal and rehydrating then reheating them.

You don’t really have to worry about heating the dehydrated food if you don’t want to. Your child will enjoy eating vegetable “chips” or “sticks” such as carrots or green beans and gnawing on a piece of “jerky”. Later, they can simply toss their banana or apple chips down their throats while watching TV or doing their homework. And, when you consider that heating sometimes breaks down or destroys vital nutrients, you are making doubly sure your child is getting all the nutrition they can from their meals.

Dressing your baby is much harder than what many new moms first assume. In fact, many think that dressing their baby will be like dressing a doll. This is the furthest from the truth, because unlike a doll, your baby moves, is flexible, and you do not want to hurt your baby by shoving their are and legs into an outfit. You will find that most baby outfits are designed so that they are easy to put on your baby, with all of the snaps or Velcro that comes included. Most items have snap because that will not irritate your baby’s soft skin. Onesies are the most popular piece of baby clothing because they work great in the summer, and are wonderful during the winter as an undershirt to help keep baby warm. You want to make sure that what you put on your baby fits. Just like with us, if something is small or tight, it will be uncomfortable, and you could have an unhappy baby for the day if they are not comfortable.

Most clothing for babies come in sizes that say 0-3, 3-6. This is representing months. The logic is that most babies are a certain size at a certain time of life, and that within that range, those particular pieces of clothing should fit your little one. The thing to remember is that babies are quickly growing, and if you get too many things that are of one size, you might find that your baby does not wear everything before they grow out of that size.

The same goes for socks and shoes. It isn’t necessary for babies to wear shoes as infants because footwear is intended to protect feet while walking. Since baby is not walking, shoes are just an addition to an outfit. With that in mind, if you are having your baby wear shoes, make sure they fit, because baby feet are extremely sensitive during their infancy years.

Bathing your baby is something that is sweet, fun, and very loving. You put together their little bath in either a sink, or a baby tub, the water is just the right temperature, you have soap ready, their little towel, and you are ready to bath. You put your baby in the bath, and you realize in about two seconds that your baby is very slippery. This is the most nerve wracking for most parents because they are terrified of dropping their baby. The first time a bath is given, it might be wise to have two people present. This way, if you need help, you do not have to fear about how to solve the problem.

Here are some handy tips for those that are going to bath baby alone, and how to handle problems. The first tip is, plan on getting wet. Yet, you will need to plan on this because the best way to keep your baby from slipping while you are washing their most tender of spots, is to hold them against you. It is best to place a burp rag on your shoulder, clothe diapers are the best burp rags, and when you pick up your baby, gently rest them on your shoulder. It is always best to be prepared. After you have set the bath, make sure you have everything you need. If you have to go get something later, it will have to wait until after the bath, you never want to leave your baby in a tub alone. Here are some thing you want to make sure you have: soap, which should be tear free baby soap, never use adult soap on an infant, a towel, a wash clothe, a sucker, and your burp rag. Place these items on your free hand side, and you should be ready to go.

Baby’s first morning, sometimes referred to as baby’s first sunrise or dew, is the what is called the first time a baby dirties his or her diapers. While it sounds cute, the actual event is somewhat, well, sticky. When a baby goes in its diaper for the first time, it is essentially releasing material that has been in his or her system for the entire pregnancy. It is scary for new parents for a couple of reasons. The first reason is that the mother knows that there was no way the baby had eaten that much since birth, so where did it come from. The second reason is that it is almost the consistency of pitch, and is nearly the same color. This is scary because as adults we are told that if our stool looked like that, it meant blood was present.

After the initial shock of seeing baby’s first morning, parents realize that it is not a normal consistency, and that in fact the first morning is really tough to clean up. Here are some tips on handling that so that you do not hurt baby’s skin while trying to use elbow grease to get your baby clean. First, instead of going straight to the wipes, ask the hospital, if still admitted, for a warm cloth. This will help loosen up the material. Just set the cloth on baby’s bottom, and let it sit for a moment, then when a gentle, one direction scrub motion, wipe as much off as you can. This truly sounds easier than it is, because baby’s first whatever you want to call it, does not come off easily. Do this a few more times, to get the brunt of it off. The warm towel will be a nice sensation for your baby, and really does help loosen. Once the majority of it is off, you can use wipes, and finish cleaning.

Wrapping your new baby in a blanket is somewhat of an art. It seems like the tighter they are wrapped the happier they are. Have you ever wondered why that is? This is because when the baby is inside its mother, it is essentially squeezed into an area that is very small. The baby’s feet are right by his face, and his arms are tucked tightly against his sides. There is really no room for the baby to move. Being born is the first time the baby has ever had to move his arms and legs in a way that we would consider stretching, and it is a scary experience. By wrapping your baby tightly in a blanket, you are doing two things. One, you are creating a warm environment for baby to be comfortable in, and two, it is comforting for your baby to be held in the position that they have really only known. This will allow your baby to sleep better, and be more relaxed when being taken out on errands, or when other people are around.

One of the cutest things that parents see with their newly born baby, is the flailing of their arms. This is, to baby, the reaction of what they think is falling. Birthing truly is traumatic, and when they are held for the first time by the doctor, their arms and legs are really just hanging, and baby is afraid. They experienced this feeling of falling at that very moment. You are seeing a repeat of it every time the baby flails his or her arms. Sometimes babies will begin to cry after this event. When you wrap your baby up again, this will comfort your little one, and they will be ready to sleep or eat, or enjoy being awake for a few moment.

Newly born babies are so small when they are born, and most mother are grateful for that, but with that comes some extra caution when holding and handling them. Case in point, their little neck muscles are not that strong, and will not be strong for some months. It is important to always hold the back of their head to it, because if they lean back, they will not be able to pull themselves forward again. As they get a little older, say two or three months, they begin to jerk backwards in an effort to look around. This is a scary new phase because it happens so suddenly. While baby is getting stronger, and jerking back is a way of working out those little neck muscles, they still have no control over where there head goes. If doing that while being held, they can actually fall out of your arms backwards if you are only supporting them with an arm under their bottom. It is important that until they can balance on your arm, that you either lean back to force them to rest on you, or that you always use two arms to support them with.

When they are first born many doctors provide suggestions on how to hold them without causing undo stress on your back or neck. This is especially true if you have had a Cesarean and you need to watch the amount of weight your are carrying or holding. The recommendation is that you hold your baby like a football, with their head in your hand, and the rest of then on your arm, and tucked in between your arm and your body. You will be able to spot a mom who has done the before because they have a tendency of holding regular objects that while doing, what appears to be, a million other things.

Many women need medical care after having a baby. With cesarean birth so common, it is almost a given that a new mother could spend up to a week in the hospital, and up to another eight weeks with postnatal care. The result is a tired mommy that has yet to really dive into being a mother. This is a good opportunity for other family members to step up, and help with the new baby.

What makes a cesarean so difficult for new moms is that it is very invasive surgery. It takes a long time to recover from, and the process of recovery does not include gaining physical strength back. It is a two fold process, healing from delivering a baby, and all of the aspects that go along with that, including blood loss, and then the recovery from invasive surgery. Doctors say that most women should not pick anything up over 10 pounds for approximately eight weeks, and that bed rest is mandatory for the first two. If there are other children in the home, this could be a difficult situation.

For those that are able to help, such as the father, the U.S. government has put together the family leave and medical act which allows parents to take off six weeks of work, and not be penalized through pay or job loss. This way new moms can have the much needed help they deserve, and those that help them are not suffering for their help and effort by having a negative reputation with their workplace. The other valuable incentive for this is that if there are doctors appointments that are needed for the baby, new moms know they can have help making sure their new little ones are getting the care they need, while mom can stay hope and rest.

When it comes to time management with a new born, you will find that the newly born baby will no doubt dictate the schedule of the household. During the first few weeks, while you are recovering, many newborns are already dictating the type of feeding, sleeping, and waking schedule that they will have. Many parents do what they can to get the schedule to something that fits in their lives, but quickly realize that this is a much harder task than it appears to be in the beginning. The best thing that a new parent can do is simply adjust to the new pattern. If you are wondering where your baby developed this personal clock think back to when you had the most activity while pregnant, with kicking and moving. Now think about your baby’s schedule, they are probably close to the same schedule.

Some of the ways that you can adjust is by planning outings, or errands around the baby’s feeding schedule. As far as sleeping goes, baby is going to sleep no matter where you are. Their little bodies are changing and growing so fast, that exhaustion is the main sensation, other than hunger, that a baby will feel. The biggest key is making sure that baby is fed during the scheduled feeding times, or you will have one unhappy baby to deal with.

The other strategy that many parents begin to incorporate into their daily life with baby is by having a certain level of noise on in the house. By training the baby that silence is the only environment for sleeping, you will find that if you want to dishes, vacuum, or have a friend over, the baby will wake up, and be frustrated. The concept comes from realizing that while you were pregnant, the baby was surrounded for noise around the clock. This noise includes your voice, heartbeat, body functions, and yes, baby slept while developing.

Being a new mom is so exciting. Whether it is something that has been planned or is something that became a part of your life, it is very exciting. There are some things, though, that many new moms have not been told. There are so many times when you hear, “how come no one said anything, I had no idea this could happen.” It is truer than ever because people feel like certain topics are not their place to talk about, or they do not want to scare new moms. For instance, how many people like talking about the belly button phase with a newborn? Don’t know what I am talking about?

This is the phase that last about 10 days that a newborn still has part of the umbilical cord attached to their belly. There are certain things that you need to do in order to care for the navel area. Such as, do not allow it to get wet, swab rubbing alcohol around the belly button to dry it out, and do not try to take it off yourself. By trying to rush the processing of the belly button coming off, you can actually create a condition called distended belly button. It basically means swelling and discomfort, but does need medical attention to make sure there are not internal issues. The baby’s belly button is still attached to the inside of their belly and the falling off of the belly button marks that severance. Remember, that connection is how the baby survived for months while in utero. In fact, when babies are born with health issues that are significant in nature, doctors can use the umbilical cord as a portal for life support for a baby. There have been cases where doctors actually kept a baby on umbilical life support, for up to a month, while they recovered from a heart surgery, or development delay; this is seen mostly with premies.

Postpartum depression is an event that many new mothers find themselves experiencing. In fact, research has shown that nearly one in three women suffer from this episodic event after giving birth. This has been an issue that many new moms feel upset about and wonder why it is happening to them that they have never dealt with depression before. There are many reasons that perpetuate this event, and there is nothing to be ashamed of. The best thing you can do for yourself as a new mom is be honest about how you are feeling, so that you can get the proper help. The good news about postpartum depression is that it is over almost as fast as it comes on, and is not something you need to be worried about having as a part of your life.

When dealing with postpartum depression, there are triggers that can set it off, or it could just be hormonal. For some mothers, when certain expectations are not met, the mother can be thrown into a depression, or it can be a bonding issue. This means that for some reason or another the baby and the mother are not bonding. This can be mentally traumatic for the new mother. This is not the fault of the mother, but rather just something that can happen. As a result, the depression can essentially prevent the mother from being interested in her baby. While this sounds very serious, it is easily remedied with medication for a temporary amount of time. Doctors, if there is a history of this happening with the other children, can have a standing order of anti-depression medication for the mother. The dosage is safe and can be taken while the mother is nursing. The time of this depression can last anywhere from a month to six months; once the initial depression lifts, mothers report feeling fine.

After having a brand new baby, there are safety and health concerns that need to be addressed right away. For example, a new mom will need to be attentive to feeding schedules, amounts to feed her baby, and if the baby is handling feeding alright. The next thing to address is sleeping. The old rule of thought was that if you place a baby belly down, then when they spit up, they will not choke on their own spit up. Then it changed to having babies on their backs because there were so many cases of SIDS, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, as a result of suffocation from being on their bellies. Today, it is encourages that babies be laid on their side.

In fact, there are special pillows made that help to have the baby laying up, partially on their side, while laying on the back on a wedged shaped block of foam. The thing to remember with newborns is that they are so weak, that whatever position you place them in for sleep, is the position they will stay in, until you pick them up again. Another pillow that has made things more comfortable for babies is the boppy pillow. This should be used during supervision, but this allows for a baby to sleep nearly sitting up. While your baby is sleeping, it is important that you either watch them, or have a monitor set up in their room for listening. This will allow you to see or hear if there is any movement, or if the baby needs your attention.

For feeding, it is best to follow your pediatricians guidance. Most recommend either breast milk or formula for the first six months. This is due in part because baby’s stomach cannot handle semi solid foods at this point in their development.

You are a new mom, and you are holding your new baby. Before long you realize that your baby has a lot of stuff. Diaper bags, strollers, wipes, spit rags, on and on. For new moms especially, it can be hard to figure out exactly what to pack in a diaper bag for your new baby, and before long, you realize that you are lugging around a 50 pound bag of stuff, for all those potential just-in-cases. For instance, it is a common mistake for new moms to bring the whole formula can, or an entire pack of wipes. There are is no need to pack like that unless you are packing for a trip. For just everyday outings, things can be much simpler, and scaled down. This will help when you are carrying a bag around everywhere you go, the weight of the bag will become an important factor.

Some of the things that you can use to make life easier is baggies. Baggies are your new best friend. The reason is because if you pack clothing, or something soft in them, you can squeeze all of the air out, making them smaller and creating a bulky diaper bag. There are so many different types of container for new moms, and many of them come in sets so that they can easily interlock, or fit together, so that again, the diaper bag is not so bulky. Another key tip is picking out a diaper bag. Today, there are so many types available, that the choices can seem endless. Look for the types that have specific pouches for things like dirty diapers, clean diapers, food storage, or extra clothing storage. Some bags come with compartmentalized sections that have thermal insulation for food or milk. Having the organization help will payoff in the end, and you will find that you have a pre-packed bag at all times.

Life as a new mother is one that is both rewarding, and extremely difficult. You went from having rest, a social life, and time for your own hobbies, to having to be a full-time caregiver 24 hours a day. During this time, it is easy to become stressed, overwhelmed, and just plain exhausted. The rewarding part is that all of this exhaustion and stress is for your little one, and you are completely responsible for loving and raising that child. There truly is not a greater calling in life than to be a mother. However, there are things that you need to do to take care of yourself, so that you are able to maintain that positive caregiver role, and not become so warn out that the whole focus of loving your baby gives way to frustration.

When you first have your baby, you want to be the best mom in the world. This means that many women feel like they can not ask for help, or have a hard time accepting help. This is the one key thing that seems to really be troublesome for new mothers, and yet having the breaks and time away is one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself. Remember being on an airplane, and the stewardesses tell the cabin that if there was an emergency, to first place the oxygen mask on yourself, THEN place it on another if they need help? This is the same type of thing. It is vital that new moms take an afternoon here or there to just pamper themselves, and to have some grown up time. Without this, a new mom can feel trapped, and become frustrated or depressed. Take friends and family up on the help, and take a break. You and your baby will be glad that you did.

So, you have just experienced one of the most incredible moments in your life. You are holding your new born, and are in shock that nature has such an amazing gift. Then you get home, and realize that your belly does not look quite right, your jeans will not budge past your knees, and all of your shirts are about four sizes too small. Do not panic, what you are experiencing is normal. Think about it, it took nine months for your body to stretch out, and prepare for giving birth, and it won’t go right back to normal in just the few hours it took to deliver. It is ok, this is a normal part of the process.

The first step that you need to take is to mentally prepare that things will not be right back to where they were in five minutes. Some experts say that takes a full year for your body to go back to how it was, this includes your hips going back down, your belly shrinking back, and your breast to tame down. In the meantime, there are things you can do so that you build up your muscle tone, burn off that baby weight, and get ready to be a goddess. During your postpartum period, if you are nursing, your body is burning calories like crazy, close to 2,000 calories a day. This is more than what you burned while pregnant. Work on your cardio fitness plan, and the combination of breast feeding and cardio melts the pounds off.

Walking is a great way to build up endurance, strengthen legs, and get you back into a fitness routine. Giving birth is an exhausting effort. There is a lot going on during that time, and it takes a while to get that energy back. Plan on easing into a routine, and by the time your baby is two months old, you will be feeling good as new.

Breat feeding is an exciting event that mother and child can experience together. It is incredibly bonding, and according to most experts, is the single biggest thing you can do for your child’s health. However, some new mothers need help with this exercise, because babies are not always as cooperative as they need to be. Some of the issues that new moms deal with is the baby grabbing onto the nipple, instead of the areola. This can be very painful if done too often, and as a result lead to cracking and bleeding around the nipple area. To get your baby to latch onto the full part of the breast, try placing your nipple into the babies mouth, so that it rubs along the roof of his or her mouth. This creates a reflex from the baby to reach out and grab the breast to suckle. Another issue that mothers experience is preferential treatment. One breast tends to have a firmer nipple than the other, and the baby prefers the firmer or softer, and develops a pickiness for the other. This can be frustrating at times because lactation occurs equally, and the baby will not fully nurse one side. This is a good time to try a pump. Pumping can help release pressure so that the milk is released, and you can avoid a breast infection.

Some mothers find that using lanolin cream after breast feeding helps to decrease sensitivity and cracking. Pumps are always go to have, but be wary of nipple confusion. This is when a baby confuses a bottle for the breast, and then refuses the breast. If there are any questions about breast feeding, hospitals have a La Leche League foundation, where trained nursing assistant can answer questions and provide tips so that your breast feeding experience is a wonderful one.

Being a new mom has many rewards and many challenges. There is the adjustment of caring for your new little one, as well as getting used to what your body is doing after birth. Babies are very demanding, and you will be losing a lot of sleep. There are things that you need to do for yourself in order to maintain your sanity. For instance, when someone offers to help, take them up on it. New moms need help, it is just how it is. You are tired, your body is healing, your baby is demanding, and on top of all of that, there are other things to deal with like making meals, housework, and errands.

So how do you manage all of the changes? First, just take things in stride. If the laundry has to wait, or the errands are a week overdue it isn’t the end of the world. Before having your baby, ask friends and family to help with meals for the first week. This will help exponentially, as the stress of just feeding you and your family is eliminated. This also is a big help because you will be exhausted the first week. The second thing that can help you, is to sleep as much as possible. The trick is to sleep when the baby sleeps. It helps to put you on the same schedule as your new little one, and alleviate some of the stress that comes with exhaustion.

Lastly, remember that your body is going through a lot at this time. Whether you choose to breast feed or not, your body is preparing for it, and there is a lot of tenderness that accompanies that change. Your abdominal area needs time to recuperate. Remember, what took nine months to expand won’t go back down overnight. Some experts say that it can take up to a year for your body to return back to its pre-pregnancy shape.

Why Use Baby Massage

Once your baby is born, you will realize the advantages of creating a healthy lifestyle for your baby. Baby massage is one way of doing so and it is a technique that is not difficult to learn. Parents can spend time using baby massage to improve the baby’s emotional and physical health.

One of the main reasons to massage your baby is to create a time for you and your baby to bond. Children who are not hugged or coddled can develop behavioral problems. It allows your baby to feel your loving touch.

Another reason to try baby massage is seen in the ability of this technique to soothe colicky or fussy baby. In the same way a massage can soothe and relax an adult who might be tense or in pain, a baby can be soothed with a massage.

Baby Massage Classes

If you are not sure how to massage your baby or feel uncomfortable starting, think about joining a baby massage class. A massage class can help you discover the best ways to massage your baby. It is also an opportunity to interact with other parents who might be trying baby massage for the first time. This is an chance to discuss useful tips.

How To Massage

As time goes by you will develop a way of massaging your baby that you both enjoy. A baby massage should be done in a room that is not too cold as the baby will need to be undressed down to his or her diaper. A blanket can be used to cover the parts of the baby that you are not massaging. Use baby lotion or baby oil and rub the skin of your child gently in soft circular motions from head to toe. As with an adult, to soothe your baby spend time massaging the head, shoulders, arms and legs.

Why Use Cloth Diapers

The advancements in technology and science have made it possible for all of us to live an easier lifestyle. This includes new moms. Disposable diapers give parents the ability to quickly take replace a diaper and put on a new one. However, many parents are looking for more environmentally friendly alternatives to diapers.

Some children are also allergic to the materials that a disposable diaper is made from. Therefore, many mothers still use cloth diapers, as they have found it a better way to keep their son or daughter dry.

Of course another reason why cloth diapers are used has to do with the amount of money a family can save. Some newborns can go through 8-10 disposable diapers a day. Think of the savings if these were reusable cloth diapers. Therefore, instead of watching your money go into a landfill with a disposable diaper, when a cloth diaper is used it only has to be replaced when it is old and worn-out.

Where To Find Cloth Diapers

When most people think of cloth diapers, they naturally assume that they will be spending most of their time washing diapers. However, if you have a lot of cloth diapers, you can spread out the time between doing the laundry.

Cloth diapers have improved tremendously since they were first used by our grandmothers. There are quite a number of online stores that sell cloth diapers at a bulk price. These diapers are professionally made and can be ordered in almost any color. These diapers are then delivered by postal mail.

Some women who can sew choose to make their own cloth diapers. If this is not an option, obtain cloth diapers by asking a friend to make them. So even if you are not handy with a sewing machine, it is just a matter of finding someone who is willing make cloth diapers for you.

It is normal for your baby to cry when he or she is hungry, tired or needs a diaper changed. However, colic might be the reason for a baby crying when there seems to be no other explanation. If your baby is not sick and is constantly crying, one reason might be that pain of colic is disturbing your child. The information below can help you determine if your child is suffering from colic and what to do to treat it.

What Is Colic?

Colic is an old term used to refer the cramping pain that a baby gets in his stomach and intestines. A baby will usually not have colic before the age of two to three weeks old. The cramping pain can be due to a blockage of within the baby’s gastrointestinal system. The pain can also be caused by muscle spasms or air trapped inside the coils of the intestines. However, when a baby starts crying because of colic, it might seem as there is no relief to the parents or the baby.

Reasons Your Baby May Have Colic

The exact cause of colic is not known and it can result from a variety of factors. Some babies can develop colic as a result of the type of formula they are drinking. You can speak to your child’s pediatrician if you suspect this. If the baby is being breastfed, it is a good idea for the mother to keep track of any foods she is eating that might be deposited in the breast milk. Also a baby might get colic if they are not properly burped.

Ways To Treat Colic

You might treat your baby’s colic by baby massage to soothe the baby’s abdomen and muscles. A warm (not hot) towel can help give soothing relief by laying your baby on it. Other parents have found a solution of gripe water containing peppermint can be used.

What Is Diaper Rash?

Almost every baby will develop a rash from the use of diapers. This is not serious but can become quite uncomfortable for the baby and parents if the rash becomes red and sore. This is diaper rash and it can resemble red welts or raised red bumps.

Diaper rash occurs when the sensitive gentle skin of a baby is irritated. This can occur with repeated diaper changes, wet diapers against the skin or rough diapers chafing the baby’s skin. Depending on how sensitive is the baby’s skin, the rash might be quite uncomfortable when the area is to be wiped and a new diaper needs to be placed on. Therefore, it is important to treat diaper rash quickly before it becomes more uncomfortable for your baby.

How To Treat It

The best way to treat diaper rash in your child is to deal with the rash as soon as you see it. The first step would be to go to the pharmacy or local drugstore and purchase diaper ointment. Some grocery stores also sell the ointment in the diaper section. The ointment should contain the active ingredient zinc oxide that is able to provide a dry area between the skin and the wet diaper. The zinc oxide will also heal the rash on the baby’s skin.

Another way of treating diaper rash would be to let the baby air dry. If the rash is very uncomfortable and makes the baby cry, just place your child on a clean towel to air dry. Afterwards diaper ointment and a new diaper can be placed on.

Once the diaper rash has been removed, you can prevent it coming back by keeping the baby clean and with a fresh diaper. So do not leave a wet diaper on for too long. When the baby does not have a rash, rub a small amount of diaper ointment between changes.

Detecting Jaundice

Jaundice can occur in a newborn without its parents realizing that there is something happening. It is medical occurrence that is quite mild but in some babies the jaundice might need more serious medical attention.

Not only babies can get jaundice, but in simple terms it a yellowing of the skin and eyes caused by the buildup of a substance called bilirubin. Bilirubin is produced when your baby’s old red blood cells are broken down in the liver. This substance is then placed in bile and stored in the gall bladder to be used during digestion. However, if your baby makes too much bilirubin, it can be present in the blood and shows up as jaundice of the skin.

What Causes Jaundice

There are a few things that can cause jaundice in a baby. The most simple cause is physiological and the newborn baby’s organs are just learning to work. Another cause is when the baby might have physical difficulties with the liver or gall bladder. This may cause a buildup of bilirubin. In some instances the lack of breast milk can cause the baby to become jaundiced. Some babies might have digestive problems and drinking the breast milk when the digestive system is still new can lead to jaundice. In more severe cases, jaundice can be a result of a blood RH factor incompatibility that led to the mother producing antibodies against the baby’s red blood cells. The baby can show signs of jaundice when it is first born.

How To Treat Jaundice of the Newborn

In cases where the jaundice is due to a physiological problem, simple light therapy is used. It involves placing the baby under a special light for photo-therapy or taking the baby out into the sunlight for a short period. On contact, the light rays will help break down the bilirubin. A blood transfusion is only needed in very severe cases.

You might be a new mother who is thinking about the proper way to burp your baby. Some people might have said that sitting the baby on your knee is better while others have told you to place the baby over your shoulder. Sometimes the information or advice we receive can be so conflicting. However, burping a baby is not as difficult as it may look.

Why Burp A Baby

First of all, an adult can use its fully functioning diaphragm to remove air from the stomach, but a baby is not able to. Therefore, burping a baby is a process which is done after the baby has eaten either by breast- or bottle-feeding. Your baby should be burped because its internal structures are still immature and developing.

Therefore, air that is swallowed while feeding can be regurgitated upwards. When the baby burps it can bring up milk that can go back up and potentially enter the baby’s lungs.

To prevent this, burping will remove any air bubbles, especially any trapped ones. . Therefore, burping a baby is just a way of removing trapped air form the digestive system.

How To Burp A Baby

While burping the baby it will be important to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible. There are two specific ways that a baby should be placed when it is to be burped. However, the baby cannot be reclining or lying down to be burped.

The most popular methods are placing the baby’s head on a shoulder or sitting the baby on your knee and supporting him with your hand on his chest or under his chin. From this position it is just a matter of rubbing or packing the baby’s back to bring up any air bubbles from the stomach. It is also a good idea to have a clean towel handy for any milk that comes up when your baby burps.

It might seem like a daunting task to put a newborn baby to sleep. However, once you have established a pattern with your baby, the anxiety and fear associated with putting a baby to bed will soon be a thing of the past. Many new mothers will hear a variety of information about the proper technique. However, you and your baby will eventually develop a routine as you observe what works best for both of you.

The Best Method

A lot of confusion can surround the best method to put your baby to sleep. Some people might say that a baby should not be placed to bed with a stuffed animal, while others might say that it is wrong to rock a baby to sleep. The first few months of your baby’s life will be about setting up a sleep routine. The baby will need a schedule of naps and bedtime for them adjust to.

When thinking of the best method to put the baby to sleep it can be either rocking the baby, holding the baby and walking around with him, or in some instances a baby massage. Rocking the baby to sleep will not spoil the baby during the first few months, but as the baby grows older, this might make it difficult for the baby to go to sleep without being held.

Putting Baby To Sleep

The best way is to set a goal time that you would like to have the baby in bed. Then one to two hours before this goal time, start getting the baby ready. This preparation time can include a feeding, warm bath, a diaper change and putting the baby into its pajamas. Some parents also sing quiet songs or read the baby a story. Over time this will be the signals to the baby that it is now time to go to sleep.

Do not spend your too much time in satisfying the demands of other people. Even though, this is a good practice, yet you should always give top priority to your own family. If you cannot fulfill the requirements of your children simply because you were busy in fulfilling the needs of others, this is simply of no use. When you are indulged in such circumstances, there should be no hesitation in saying sorry to others. You only have to tell other people that you are busy with your family and kids and they will not mind it.

In case, you run a business and also you have got kids, you have to maintain a fine balance between the two. You should not at all neglect your children how much busy you maybe. What you should look to do is, manage time so efficiently that without ignoring the business, you still have quality time left to play with your kids.

In this regard, you make seek the services of Scottsdale property management, which is a very famous company and it provides a lot of other things in addition to its superb services. The most significant aspect related to this is that it effectively handles your property and all the tenants of your particular property consequently freeing you from various business related apprehensions. In this way, you will be left with some good amount of time which you can always spend with your kids. Definitely, you will have to spend some money in order to avail their services but as a result, you will receive some valuable free time.

The bottom line is that you should try to keep your routine in equilibrium. Always have your time fixed for your children and in case, you have to add up some extra thing in your schedule, do not do it at the expense of your time for your children.

There can be a lot of anxiety inside a new mother when it comes to feeding a baby. Many people will try to advise you on the correct way to do so. Ultimately the best routine and technique for feeding will be what is comfortable for you and your baby. Therefore, baby feeding is not as difficult as it might first appear, and with the proper guidance, your newborn feeding time can become a relaxed and enjoyable time to bond.

Choices In Feeding A Baby

There are two ways in which you can choose to feed your baby. Either using a bottle or by breast-feeding. Therefore, a new mother will have to decide if she is going to use either a bottle or breast-feed. When using a bottle to feed a baby, the new mother has the option of expressing her milk using a breast pump or buying milk formula. Therefore, if the bottle has been chosen, the woman will have to decide between formula or breast milk in the bottle.

Some women prefer buying formula as it is quite convenient. The formula can be quickly prepared and given to the baby. Also when using a bottle with formula, someone else can also feed the baby while the mother does another task. Some babies will also not need to be fed as often when using formula, compared to breast milk, as the baby’s digestive system will take longer to digest the formula. However, formula might not contain all of the nutrition a baby needs and might be expensive for some families.

If a woman decides to breast feed or place her breast milk in a bottle, then she will need to be relaxed to do so. Breast milk will cost nothing and does contain all of the nutrition a baby needs to grow. However, with this choice of feeding method, mothers might not feel comfortable breast feeding in public.

When your baby is teething for the first time, some new moms might think their child is sick. Some babies can become quite cranky and cry often while teething, as they experience mild discomfort or pain. Here is an explanation of what teething is and some helpful tips for you to get through this process.

What Is Teething?

Unlike some other animals, humans are not born with teeth. The human teeth will grow out from the gums after we are born. The gums will become swollen and tender as the baby’s teeth grow from the jawbone, through the gums, and into the mouth. During teething, the process can be accompanied by pain in the gums, fever, and even diarrhea in some children

How To Know When Teething Begins

There are a few signs to look for to know if your baby has started teething. Most babies will start drooling and place a finger into their mouths to chew on it. A baby will do these actions because it relieves the gum pain. Other than a finger the baby may try to chew on anything else such as a soft toy or blanket. The best thing parents can do is help their child feel comfortable during teething time.

Teething Tips

There are various remedies that can be used to help a baby during the teething stage. The first suggestion is teething ointment. This can be rubbed onto the baby’s gums every few hours or as directed on the packaging. The teething ointment will numb the baby’s gums and provide relief from pain and soreness. Parents of a teething baby can also buy a teething ring. This is usually a soft plastic circle that will not hurt the baby’s mouth but provide something for them to chew on. The teething ring can also be sterilized as a clean alternative than the baby’s hand.

Sleep requirements for kids vary, depending on the age of your child. Sleep deprived kids, over time, are more prone to depression, accidental injuries, poor concentration, lower immunity to colds and flu, and obesity. To make sure your child is getting enough rest, follow these pediatric sleep guidelines: Newborn to two months need 12 to 18 hours per day, two to 12 months should get 9 to 12 hours each night and two to four and a half hours of nap time per day, one to three years require 12 to 13 hours of sleep (including naps), and ages three to five years need 11 to 12 hours per day (including naps).

Children who are well-rested typically use three or four areas of the brain when completing a task, but sleep loss impairs brain function and effects coordination, efficiency, and concentration. If you need to find sleep study centers in your area, contact Canada 411. You’ll be able to locate professionals who can suggest healthy strategies for helping your little ones get the sleep they need.

Studies show that adults who get fewer than eight hours of sleep per night are three times more likely to get a cold, so it’s even more important to tuck those kiddies in early. Experts suggest that bedtime distractions, such as TVs and video games in the bedroom, contribute to over-stimulation, which leads to fatigue. Since kids learn by example, parents need to demonstrate bedtime routines that will instill good habits for a lifetime of optimum vitality and health.

In the past there was a lot of secrecy that surrounded the depression that some women experience after giving birth. For quite a long time scientists could not understand what would make a new mother who was happy to give birth, start to feel sad. Now postpartum depression is not a secret to be hidden away in the closet but something to discuss. This condition is something a new mother or her partner should watch for.

What Is Postpartum Depression

Postpartum depression occurs in a woman who has recently given birth. It mainly occurs after the woman is producing hormones to sustain the pregnancy. When she has given birth, the body will need to regulate her hormone levels back to normal. This will take some time. A woman will mainly experience postpartum depression within the first few months of giving birth as her hormone levels regulate.

This condition is characterized by the usual symptoms and signs of depression such as lack of appetite, deep sadness, lack or interest in anything and lack of sleep. However, some women can also experience aggression, irritability, and a negative attitude towards her baby as signs of postpartum depression.

Family and partners might feel powerless as the new mother might feel fear or detached at wanting to hold the baby. The woman in this situation might even be labeled a bad mother by her family or partner.

Treating Postpartum Depression

The stigma associated with postpartum depression is now a thing of the past. It has been shown that at least 12 percent of women who gave birth were affected. It is more common in teenage mothers, new mothers with other health problems, or mothers under stress. Women with previous depression are also at risk.

The best thing to do is seek medical help, you will have the diagnosis confirmed. However, family and partners should strive to be very supporting and loving during this difficult time.

It seems like just after the New Year, the panic of tax season begins to set in. For some, doing their taxes is a simple affair that they can do by themselves either by using old fashioned pen and paper, or by using one of the popular software filing kits. Of course, any filer wants to be sure to have the maximum number of deductions, but the filing process changes slightly when you are claiming dependents.

The Internal Revenue Service defines a dependent as any taxpayer’s child or relative. It’s not quite that simple, however, as the IRS may want to confirm that the dependent is in fact a child or stepchild of the taxpayer. The IRS may also want to confirm that dependent is under the age of 19 (or 24 if a full-time student), has lived with the taxpayer for more than half a year, and that the dependent cannot provide for at least half of their own support.

The rules for filing taxes that include a relative as a dependent are even trickier, and if dealing with that situation, consulting an accountant may be your best choice.

Once you’ve determined that you will indeed be claiming dependents, you may be eligible for tax credits, deductions and other tax benefits such as personal exemptions, child tax credits and dependent care credits.

The IRS makes an effort to simplify the filing of your taxes through the use of worksheets that are available online, but the safest and best way to ensure you’re getting the proper number of deductions is to sit down with an accountant. At the very least, you should use one of the great software products that ask you a series of questions in order to populate the fields on your tax return.

No matter how you prepare your tax return, filing a return claiming dependents can be more difficult than a standard individual tax return.

One of the hardest tasks in nature is that of being a mother. Very few jobs in nature can be as challenging, stressful or energy sapping as motherhood. This is even more magnified in the case of a new mother. Like all other experiences in life, it is normal to feel anxiety and even doubt as a new mother.

Such feelings are perfectly normal and even expected in certain cases; at least there is no crime in having feelings of fear and anxiety when you want to embark on something that you have never done before. This is especially true for something as delicate and detailed as motherhood. It can be more than getting a degree from an institution.

However, you can overcome the various challenges of motherhood. Once you are able to do this, you will not only cope with the challenges but you will even find motherhood to be a very enjoyable and rewarding experience. The first thing that you have to do is to ensure that you have a very solid relationship with your husband or partner. The challenges and pains of motherhood are better shared with one’s spouse. In a case where you have a loving partner, one that really cares, then you do not have a problem, as much of the work will be done by him, except for the fact that you have to deliver the baby after carrying for nine good months.

Nonetheless, we need to consider the fact that there are numerous mothers that do not have partners or they have partners that are simply uncaring and irresponsible. For this category of people, what can be done is to move close to other mothers and share your problems with them. As said before, motherhood can be very challenging and you really need a shoulder to lean on.

For some mothers, one of the happiest days in their lives was the day they were delivered of their first child. For such women, becoming a mother opened a new window into the future and made them view the world from another perspective. For those that have the experience, it can really be a very heartwarming and gladdening thing when the nurse gives you your tiny bundle of joy with smiles amidst cheers from your spouse and relatives.

However, caring for your first baby can be a very daunting task but with a lot of careful and strategic planning, you can manage to triumph over the many challenges of parenthood. Caring for your baby is a multi-stage process that starts even long before the baby is born.

In this regard, we cannot over-emphasize the importance of choosing the right father for your child. Once you are able to pin down a responsible man and all the formalities of marriage have ended, then the two of you have to sit down and thoroughly plan how both of you will contribute to caring for your offspring.

In most cases, what follows such discussions is a rapidly protruding tummy. Once you become pregnant, preparations must be intensified for the arrival of the special guest. Pregnancy itself is a very demanding experience but it can also be an index of the quality of care that your baby is receiving. During pregnancy, you must consume foods that are not only beneficial to you but the fetus as well.

What this mean is that as an expectant mother, you must avoid all forms of irresponsible living such as tobacco smoking, drug abuse or alcoholism. These are habits that can harm the baby while in the womb. You must also attend the antenatal clinics promptly and ensure that your baby gets all the necessary vaccines once delivered. Moreover, never neglect the concept of exclusive breastfeeding.

Once you are delivered of your bouncing baby, what follows is usually a flurry of activities that are mainly concerned with taking care of the newborn baby. One of the simplest but the most effective thing that you can do for your new baby is to adopt the practice of breastfeeding. Without any doubt, breastfeeding is the best thing that can happen to a child under maternal care and attention.

In order to derive the maximum benefit from breast feeding and reduce breastfeeding-associated problems later in the future, experts have agreed that the earlier you breastfeed the child the better. This is very important, as it is a common practice among nurses and birth attendants to delay breastfeeding because of other processes that include birth weighing and drug administration. Therefore, as the caring mother that wants the best for the child, you should always insist that the child must be breastfed shortly after birth.

This is even more important in face of the fact that the most important part of the milk that is produced called the colostrum is produced shortly after birth. The colostrum is the richest and it contains the most important ingredients that are beneficial for the baby.

The length of breastfeeding is also another very important issue. Some mothers just breastfeed their babies for a few days or weeks and then switch to infant formula citing various reasons. The World Health Organization recommends that the baby should be breastfed for a period of six months. However, a lot of women find it quite difficult to keep up to this, as most of them are professionals who are also struggling to support their own families.

The benefits of breastfeeding are just too numerous to be mentioned. The nutritional composition of breast milk is the best for the baby. Apart from being rich in various nutrients, the human milk also contains substances that protect your child from coming down with infections.

Although certain jobs have been classified as challenging, that of taking care of babies and infants is definitely one of the most challenging of all tasks that exist. Taking care of an infant is something that you have to prepare for. With adequate preparation, it is actually an experience that you will enjoy.

Taking care of an infant is a job that is not only detailed; it is one that must be thoroughly and carefully done. For example, for adults, the process of taking a bath is a very simple one but for infants, it is a very elaborate process. Before you will bath your baby, you should ensure that the water to be used is not too hot or too cold but should be of the right temperature. Remember, there are no half measures. This step is very important considering the fact that infants find it very difficult to adapt to great changes in the external temperature owing to their small body size.

Once you are sure the water will not scald the perfect skin of your child, the bathing soap that you will be using must also be of the right choice. There are special bathing soaps made only for the tender skin of an infant and those are the ones that you should go for. The same thing applies to the baby lotion that you use. You should use a lotion that will not react with the skin and preserve its tenderness and glow.

Studies have shown that talc powder should be avoided, as they are irritants to the young child’s lungs. Other things that you must note include the fact that whenever the infant is in the crib, you should always ensure that there are no extra clothes, toys or other materials that a child can choke on. This is to prevent what is known as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or what is also called “crib death”.

In various parts of the world, the coming of a new baby into a family is always followed by great felicitations and celebrations. If you have ever experienced one before, you will agree that having a new baby is a very joyful one especially for the parents and their well-wishers.

However, after the celebrations and the festivities of the naming ceremony, the parents are faced with the stark challenge of raising the child. It is at this point that the parents, especially the mother begins to understand the challenging and highly demanding nature of motherhood. In a world where mothers are also contributors to the family income, a lot of mothers see breastfeeding as a time-wasting and laborious process.

As a result, millions of mothers all over the globe opt for baby milk formulations and different types of infant formulas. However, when we learn of the many benefits of breastfeeding, you will agree that there is really no alternative that is better.

Breast milk has been analyzed by scientists and it has been discovered that it contains the right amount of sugar, fats, proteins and water that the baby needs. Nothing is in excess or insufficient. In addition to this, breast milk gives protection to your child against various infections. However, breast-feeding is not advisable in a case where the mother is down with diseases such as tuberculosis or the much-dreaded human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This is to prevent the possibility of a mother-to-child transmission.

Another important discovery that has been made in this regard is that children that were breastfed exclusively during the early months of their lives have been shown to have a relatively higher intelligence quotient (IQ) than their counterparts that were fed mainly on baby formulas. They were also seen to have a lower risk of developing diseases such as diabetes and conditions such as obesity.

One of the greatest, if not the greatest thing that can happen in the life a woman is to become a mother. To be delivered of a bouncing bundle of joy is an experienced that one must go through before you can fully understand and appreciate the wonders of childbirth.

The coming of a new child is a very important event in any family and it is quite understandable why it is usually always followed by spontaneous joy and celebration in any household where a new baby arrives. However, once the celebrations are over, the new mother is left alone to cope with the numerous challenges of motherhood.

Without any doubt, the task of motherhood is one of the most challenging in nature and at such times, a caring and supportive spouse is indispensable. For a new and young mother that is anxious about the whole thing, a supportive husband can help calm her nerves. Once you become a mother, it is normal for you to be bombarded from all sides with solicited and unsolicited tips, advice and suggestions. If care is not taken, you may be confused as a new mother. At such times, what you need is calm and the right information from the right sources so that you can make the right decisions.

We cannot overstress the fact that motherhood can be very challenging but one thing that you must have at the back of your mind is that it is also something that you can enjoy. All you need to do is to be armed with information concerning the feeding, bathing, clothing and overall caring for your baby. Of all the various practices that are available, you must choose the one that your child prefers or seems to be convenient with. You should never adopt a measure simply because it is in vogue or because a friend uses it. You must always learn to “listen” to your baby.

Let us imagine a scenario in the maternity ward of a hospital in which a woman is being delivered of her very first child. The delivery process is smooth and in some minutes, the hospital reverberates with the shrilling cries of a newborn. The new mother is very tired from the stress of labor but she is visibly ecstatic. What is going on through her mind is what to give the new child as best gifts. But funnily enough, the best gifts anyone can give a child are right there on her chests. Yes, her breasts!

Some call it the mammary glands but these pairs are some of the most amazing structures ever designed. They produce fresh and unpolluted milk for the newborn. The milk is so precise in its composition that it contains the right amount of nutrients just suitable for the baby. The contents of fats, proteins, water and sugar (lactose) happen to be in the right quantity, as if the breast milk was customized for the baby.

Apart from the high nutritional status of breast milk, you need to also realize the fact that it contains substances that protect your child from different sorts of infections, some of which can be fatal. These substances are called antibodies and circulate in the bloodstream of the mother and are passed on to the baby via breast milk during feeding.

In addition to all these, another reason why you must breastfeed that child of yours is the fact that breast milk contains a lot of vitamins and minerals that are needed for proper growth and development. Some of these minerals are calcium, sodium, potassium and phosphorus. Thus, your child will not suffer from conditions that result from the deficiency of these minerals if you adopt breastfeeding exclusive breastfeeding.

One unique thing with being a mother is that any time you are heavy with a baby or when you have just been delivered of a baby, you will be overwhelmed with advice, tips, secrets and all sorts of information on how to care for the newborn. Some of these tips leave you reeling with laughter while some others leave you even more confused, particularly when it is your first time.

However, the nice thing about caring for a baby is the fact that the steps are quite basic and simple. These include how to bathe, clothe, feed and care for the baby. Although simple, taking care of a baby is like an art, one that must be learnt over time.

The bathing of a baby is one that must be done carefully and without the slightest haste. If not done properly, the bathing of a baby can result in the death of the baby by drowning. That is the reason why you must never leave you child in a bathing tub alone, not even for a second. As a matter of fact, you must never leave your baby unattended to in any circumstances. Caring for a baby is a duty that is for 24 hours in a day and seven days in a week! You cannot afford to take chances. If you do not know how to bathe your baby properly, you can seek for assistance from those that have the experience.

Once the bathing issue has been taken care of alongside clothing, another important aspect that you must attend to is that of feeding. This is a very crucial aspect in pediatric care and to minimize your problems, you can adopt the highly beneficial method of exclusive breastfeeding. Apart from the fact that the cost is quite negligible, your baby stands to gain a lot from breastfeeding and you should not deny him or her such benefits.

In various parts of the globe, the first child is always given a position of esteem, grace and pride. This is quite understandable as a first child is a signal of hope, freshness and a better future. The young parents are even most anxious and in some cases jittery when they were expecting their first child. This is due to the different things that they must have been told, either positive or negative.

However, the business or process of preparing for your first baby is something that you must start even long before the child is born. What this means is that the prospective parents must have gone for the proper genetic counseling in addition to going for various hematological (blood) and other medical tests in order to confirm the fact that both parents are compatible. In actual sense, there is no point (although you must) in preparing for a child that will spend the rest of his life suffering from sickle cell or a congenital disorder like Down Syndrome. Therefore, in order to ensure that your child enjoys the best of health inside and outside the womb, you must be screened before it is too late.

Once the coast is clear and the woman has taken in, the next thing is to ensure that she feeds well in addition to avoiding drugs and alcohol, which can damage sensitive organs of the baby in the uterus. Apart from these, the expectant mother should attend antenatal classes with the fervor of a religious fanatic.

During the antenatal classes, you will be instructed on the kinds of food that you must consume and those that you must avoid. It is also beneficial, as routine examination (through ultrasonography) will let you know if you are expecting multiple births such as twins and triplets. In most cases, you also know the sex beforehand so that shopping can begin in earnest!

Of all the creatures in existence, babies are some of the loveliest and charming. They stupefy us with their innocence and beauty. Thus, it is little wonder that a baby is a friend to all and we always enjoy their warm cuddle and funny laughter. However, behind every attractive baby is a hardworking and perhaps, overstressed mother.

It is easy to fathom the reason for this. Taking care of a baby is a very daunting task. It is one without leave or break of any kind. A mother can never afford to leave her baby unattended. It is always an interesting phase of motherhood.

At this point, it will not be out of place if we talk about some general tips regarding how babies can be cared for. Although there are uncountable tips and suggestions out there, we will bother ourselves with the most basic.

Taking care of a baby can be categorized under bathing, feeding, cleaning and clothing. Although there are other activities when it comes to taking care of a baby, as a mother you are most likely to be doing any of these at any given point in time.

Bathing your baby is a process that needs to be carried out with caution. Careless mothers have been known to drown their own babies. Thus, you must never leave your baby in the bathing tub alone and unattended to for whatever reason. For feeding, the best is exclusive breastfeeding and experts recommend six months. If you wish to switch to infant formula, inform your pediatrician before doing so. This is to prevent any gastrointestinal upset or distress for the baby. When clothing the baby, the most important thing that must be on your mind is the comfort of your baby who should not be kept too hot or too cold.
